Link Projects
Linking projects allows you to reuse work done in other efforts. Linking is only possible in Product or Market (or Mission, Indication) domains. The original subsystem or technology project being linked is referred to as the link prime project; the new project is the link adjunct project. A system project can link to any subsystem or technology project in its platform hierarchy (Please see Terminology for more details).
To link projects, select the destination project into which an existing project is to be linked and click the link button. In the dialog box:
- From the radio button, select the type of link
- Insert: Existing development is complete and is reused without modification. Future continuations of the parent project will include the same inserted project.
- Transition: Existing development is transitioned into the current project. Future continuations of the parent project will include new copies of the transitioned project.
- Co-develop: Development will be shared between two projects. Future continuations of the parent project will require the user to link new projects as appropriate.
- Select the basis platform corresponding to the link prime project you would like to link
- If your desired platform is not available, please check if the platform is already in use in the current project. Only one project is allowed per basis platform. Or make changes to the platform architecture.
- A table is displayed with choices for available projects. Select the desired link prime project by double clicking it and click OK.
A linked copy of the link prime project – known as the link adjunct project – is now displayed under the destination project. Changes can only be made to the original link prime project. If the link prime project has children (i.e., subsystem projects), they are also available in the link adjunct project.
Icons appears on the far info column of link adjunct project row and the link prime project row indicating their link status. Mouse hover on top of these icons provides more information about the link prime and adjunct projects respectively.
Link button is disabled if:
- No link destination is selected
- If you do not have RW access to the selected project or PRW access to its basis platform
InspiRD App makes a log entry in the linked project and their parents indicating that the operation, by whom, and when. Email notifications are sent to the owner of the project (if enabled). All changes are automatically propagated to link adjunct copies and appropriate log entries are made.
