The link button launches a dialog box that allows you to link platforms. Linking platforms allows the same platform to be used across elements. Please see Terminology for details.
To link platforms in the product domain, first select the destination platform. Next, click the Link button. Select either the subsystem or a technology platform radio button:
Linking Child Sub-system Platforms: For Product platforms: In the drop-down menu, drill down to locate and choose the platform you would like to link. Note that all children of the link prime platform will also be linked. Please note that linking enforces tree level – only the right level platform can be linked.
Linking Technology Domain Platforms: For Technology Platforms: In the drop-down menu, select Technology Area, Technology Discipline and Technology Platforms Linking technology platforms allows you to share technologies across different Products. Technology platforms can be linked into any level of the system platform tree.
All available technology platforms are displayed. If your desired platform is not available, please make changes to the platform architecture ().
Advanced Platform Linking: Click the Advanced button in the Link Platform dialog box and manually enter the link prime platform number. Advanced linking enables “breaking” platform hierarchy where appropriate. Please use advanced linking carefully – as it may impact your portfolio computation of your portfolio metrics.
When a platform is linked, an icon appears in the info column of the link adjunct platform row and link prime platform row indicating its link status. Mouse hover on top of this icons provides more information about the link prime platform.
